Brief description

Duplex Alloy 2205 is a two-phase, ferritic, austenitic 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5 to 6% nickel alloyed stainless steel. It is the most widely used duplex stainless steel grade and is characterized by high yield strength, double that of the standard austenitic stainless steel grades. It demonstrates good fatigue strength, as well as outstanding resistance to stress-corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion and general corrosion in severe environments.

UNS S32205 Duplex 2205 piping Products have the advantage of less uniform corrosion due to the addition of molybdenum, nitrogen and copper to the composition. This makes the UNS S32205 Duplex F60 material be used over a variety of harsh environments. Only the Stainless Duplex UNS S32205 raw material cost is higher because other grades of super duplex stainless steel could be used in most of the applications where 22 Cr Duplex UNS S32205 Products could be used. Only very few selective applications require Alloy 2205 S32205 Products the only choice.

Regardless of the interchangeability of UNS S32205 Duplex F60 Piping Products with others, Duplex Steel S32205 piping material is preferred in sea water and subsea environments because of their extreme resistance to chloride corrosion. Duplex Stainless Steel UNS S32205 Products can offer a long lasting effect without corrosion. They also have twice as more strength as austenitic steel material. 1.4462 Werkstoff S32205 material is used in construction industry and automobile industry as coils to withstand high wear and tear, high pressure and high tensions. They are also used in chemical processing plants as pipe lines.  1.4462 S32205 piping material can be used even under acidic conditions. It is very resistant to even sulfuric acid due to the addition of copper into the composition. The lightweight and high corrosion resistance properties have their uses in aerospace and nuclear engineering processe.

Chemical composition of Duplex Steel S32205

Duplex 2205 is a nitrogen enhanced duplex stainless steel that was developed to combat common corrosion problems encountered with the 300 series stainless steels. “Duplex” describes a family of stainless steels that are neither fully austenitic, like 304 stainless, nor purely ferritic, like 430 stainless. The structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel consists of austenite pools surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. Often referred to as the work horse grade, 2205 is the most widely used grade in the duplex family of stainless steels.

Alloy 2205 duplex stainless steel plate provides pitting and crevice corrosion resistance superior to 316L or 317L austenitic stainless steels in almost all corrosive media. It also has high corrosion and erosion fatigue properties as well as lower thermal expansion and higher thermal conductivity than austenitic. The yield strength is about twice that of austenitic stainless steels. This allows a designer to save weight and makes the alloy more cost competitive when compared to 316L or 317L. Alloy 2205 duplex stainless steel plate is particularly suitable for applications covering the -50°F/+600°F temperature range. Temperatures outside this range may be considered but need some restrictions, particularly for welded structures.

Alloy 2205 (UNS S32205) is a 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5-6% nickel, nitrogen alloyed duplex stainless steel plate with high general, localized, and stress corrosion resistance properties in addition to high strength and excellent impact toughness.

The chemical composition of duplex steel s32205 sheets gives them exceptional strength and corrosion resistance properties. The balance of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel combined with adding molybdenum, nitrogen, and reduced carbon and silicon levels creates an alloy with superior performance characteristics. This alloy has a high yield and tensile strength and is ideal for use in harsh and demanding applications such as marine, oil and gas, and chemical processing industries.

Characteristics of UNS S32205

Corrosion Resistance

Duplex Steel 2205 has excellent corrosion resistance. It can withstand severe environments that are temperature, acidic, or alkaline. Unlike other alloy pipes requiring much more maintenance, Duplex Steel 2205 pipes can function in corrosive environments with little to no upkeep. The alloy combination in Duplex Steel 2205 also enables it to resist corrosion caused by chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking. Duplex steel 2205 pipes have superior corrosion resistance compared to other alloy pipes. This is because the duplex structure of 2205 stainless steel consists of a combination of austenitic and ferritic microstructures, giving it improved strength and greater corrosion resistance in environments where other alloys may fail to provide sufficient protection. Its ability to resist pitting, crevice, and stress corrosion cracking makes it an ideal choice for applications that require excellent chemical properties and high mechanical strength.

Strength

Duplex Steel 2205 is known for its superior strength to other alloy pipes. This strength means it can withstand high-pressure and high-temperature environments. It is ideal for use in the oil and gas industry, chemical processing, and power generation. Its high strength also enables it to resist external forces like bending or deformation. Duplex Steel 2205 Pipes have a higher strength than other alloy pipes due to their superior composition. They contain 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel content that lend them exceptional strength properties. This makes them ideal for use in high-pressure environments where they can withstand temperatures up to 600°F (316°C) and pressures up to 72,000 psi (490 MPa). Additionally, they feature high resistance against corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion, making them suitable for many marine applications.

Cost-Effective

Duplex Steel 2205 Pipes are cost-effective compared to other alloys due to their exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. This unique combination makes them suitable for many applications with high temperatures and pressures, making them much more economical for long-term operations. These pipes also have excellent weldability and formability properties, making them easier to fabricate into complex parts, further reducing the costs associated with manufacturing. Therefore, Duplex Steel S32205 Pipes is a great choice for any project needing cost-effective alloy pipes that can handle high temperatures and corrosive environments.

Weldability

Duplex Steel 2205 has excellent weldability, making joining or repairing easier. It can be welded using various welding techniques, such as TIG, MIG, and stick welding. Other alloy pipes have different welding requirements, which can make the process more time-consuming and costly. UNS S32205 pipes have excellent weldability compared to other alloy pipes. They exhibit higher resistance to corrosion and oxidation due to their high Chromium and Molybdenum content. The ferritic-austenitic structure of the duplex microstructure gives it an inherent ability for strong weld joints while providing good resistance against stress corrosion cracking. In addition, the combination of machinability with full bore strength makes them suitable for many applications requiring built products like boilers and pressure vessels.

Application areas of Duplex Steel 2205

1. Water Treatment and Desalination

Desalination and water treatment applications need the use of a long-lasting material that can resist the corrosive nature of water, liquids, and salt. You're looking at stainless steel that's beenduplexed.
