Stainless Steel 316L

Material: 316L, UNS S31603, 1.4404, 1.4435
316L stainless steel is a low carbon austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel. 1.4435 is used as a medical grade stainless steel due to its excellent resistance to various corrosions. It is a highly alloyed variant of 1.4404. AISI 316L is more resistant to carbide precipitation and has good oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 870°C in intermittent operation and up to 925°C in continuous operation.

Stainless Steel 316L Introduction:

316L is a variant of 316 stainless steel, belonging to low carbon austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel. The main difference is that the carbon content is lower, usually not more than 0.03%, reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion during welding. Due to the reduced carbon content, 316L can still maintain good corrosion resistance after welding. In addition, 316L shows better corrosion resistance after heat treatment.

SAE 316L grade stainless steel, also known as A4 stainless steel or marine grade stainless steel, is the second most common austenitic stainless steel after 304/A2 stainless steel. Since 316L has a lower carbon content than 316, it has better resistance to intergranular corrosion and is the best choice for high corrosion and high temperature applications.
