317 stainless steel is a high-performance alloy classified as austenitic. Due to its high content of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum, the alloy offers high corrosion resistance. Its chemical composition contributes to its superior resistance to stress corrosion compared to other stainless steels. 317 grade stainless steel is used in environments exposed to harsh chemicals and high temperatures.
317 stainless steel offers high strength and durability, making it suitable for use in chemical processing and marine equipment. 317 stainless steel belongs to the austenitic family, characterized by its face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure, imparting excellent toughness, ductility, and ease of fabrication even at cryogenic temperatures.
The chromium content provides the metal with its anti-corrosive properties, while the molybdenum further strengthens the alloy’s ability to resist corrosion in certain environments. The nickel content adds further strength and corrosion resistance while ensuring that the metal remains ductile even at cryogenic temperatures.
