316H/S31609 is a high-carbon, austenitic, heat-resistant stainless steel with high thermal strength and excellent corrosion resistance. It maintains stable performance in harsh environments such as high temperature, high corrosion, and high pressure. It is often used in equipment and components requiring high heat resistance, such as pipes and fittings for boiler superheaters, heat exchangers, catalysts, and condensers.
High-temperature heat exchangers for petrochemicals, boilers, and pressure vessels are designed for temperatures between 590-670°C. Welding consumables require the deposited metal to meet NB/T47018 standards and AWS standards, with a carbon content of 0.04-0.08% and a yield strength of Rp0.2 ≥ 117 MPa at 670°C. Intergranular corrosion testing of the deposited metal using GB/T 4334 E method revealed no intergranular corrosion cracking after the bend test. JN 316H heat-resistant stainless steel meets these technical specifications.

1. High-temperature industrial equipment
Used in boilers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels for temperatures up to 500–870°C and superheater tubes for power generation. Its higher carbon content (0.04–0.10%) provides enhanced strength at elevated temperatures versus standard 316 grades.
2. Petrochemical and oil industry
Widely deployed in pressure vessels, piping systems, valves, pumps, and reactor vessels due to corrosion resistance in chloride/sulfur environments.
3. Marine engineering
Preferred for shipbuilding components and offshore structures owing to exceptional resistance to seawater/chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion.
4. Chemical and pharmaceutical processing
Used in reactors, tanks, and piping for handling acids (e.g., acetic, phosphoric) and corrosive chemicals.
5. Other key sectors
Food and beverage processing equipment
Pulp and paper industry machinery
Water treatment systems and textile manufacturing.
Notes:
Welding: Requires preheating and 316L filler metal to prevent cracking due to higher carbon content.
Temperature limits: Avoid prolonged exposure >800°C; creep strength declines significantly above 600°.
For lower-temperature applications, 316L may be more cost-effective.
The selection of 316H over standard 316/304 grades is driven by its superior high-temperature strength for pressurized systems in aggressive environments.
