Stainless steel 304 is an austenitic steel, containing about 18% chromium and 8% nickel, so it is also called 18/8 or 18-8 steel. 304 is the most popular and most versatile stainless steel alloy, which includes two special versions, 304L and 304H. Stainless steel 304 has good corrosion resistance, formability and weldability.
JN Alloy is a high quality stainless steel 304 material manufacturer and supplier. We provide 304 stainless steel pipes, plates, bars, fasteners, butt-weld pipe fittings, forgings, pipe prefabrication and flanges, etc., a one-stop service manufacturer. JN exports to 60+ countries and regions, provides free samples, and has a dedicated business manager to track the entire process from production to receipt, which has been well received.
JN 304 stainless steel products have a smooth, clean surface, free of scratches, bubbles and impurities. Welcome to inquire!

Normally, 304 stainless steel is NOT magnetic. However, when 304 is bent, stamped, stretched, cut or polished, the austenite structure will transform into martensite. Martensite structure is magnetic, so it will make 304 steel magnetic.
The more intense the processing, the more martensite is produced, and the stronger the magnetism. For example, the bends and cut edges of 304 stainless steel pipes are usually more magnetic.
Magnetism cannot be used as the only criterion for judging 304. It is very inaccurate to determine whether it is "real 304" or "fake 304" simply by relying on a magnet to adsorb. Many stainless steels such as 201, 430, etc. have strong magnetism themselves, and 304 after processing will also be magnetic.
To accurately identify whether it is 304 material, professional spectral analysis test method is required.
The stainless steel 304 price ranges from 2.50 to 4.50 per kilogram or ₹220 to ₹350 per kg in India, with bulk purchases 1 ton or more typically costing 2,500to4,500 per ton. Prices vary based on the product type—304 stainless steel sheets cost 3.00 to 4.00 per kg, 304 stainless steel pipes from 4.00 to 7.00 per kg, and 304 stainless steel rods sell for 3.50 to 4.50 per kg.
The price changes daily due to factors like nickel costs, shipping fees, taxes, and market demand. In India, today’s rate is around ₹230 to ₹360 per kg, with bulk discounts available. To get the best deal, compare stainless steel prices from multiple suppliers and consider buying in bulk to get the best price.
Prices may rise slightly in the coming months due to global demand and nickel price fluctuations. For the most accurate and lastest pricing, please contact a 304 Stainless Steel Manufacturer Near You before purchasing.
These are all 18-8 austenitic stainless steels with different names in different countries. 304 (US standard), SUS304 (Japanese standard), 06Cr19Ni10 (Chinese standard), and S30408 are the UNS numbers of 06Cr19Ni10. The UNS number of US 304 is S30400. There are slight differences in standards in different countries, but in short, these are the same material.
304 stainless steel is Not Equal To food grade stainless steel. The real food grade stainless steel is "specially treated 304 stainless steel".
Food grade stainless steel is cleaner, has a brighter surface, and has an FDA certification mark. If you use it for direct contact with food, be sure to choose a product marked "stainless steel 304 food grade".
Compared with 304, 316 stainless steel has increased nickel content, reduced carbon content, and newly added molybdenum (304 does not composied molybdenum). The nickel and molybdenum greatly enhances its corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance, and the cost is also higher.
316 is mainly used in equipment that requires corrosion and high temperature resistance, such as marine, high-temperature distillation, and special medical equipment, so for general use, select 304.
304 will not rust, but if it is in coastal areas or areas with poor water quality for a long time, rust and mildew will appear on the surface of 304 stainless steel, which is normal.
Therefore, it must be well protected during use. If there are water stains on the surface for a long time, it needs to be cleaned in time, otherwise it will rust and leave great danger.
Yes, you can trust this type of stainless steel as it is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, durability and versatility. All these properties come from its composition, namely iron, chromium, nickel and other alloying elements. It is used in everything from kitchen accessories to building structures. Its ability to resist and withstand in corrosive environments and maintain its integrity makes it a reliable choice for many industries. So yes, 304 stainless steel is a good quality stainless steel.
