A solid solution alloy, Monel 400 is an alloy that exhibits superior resistance to the marine environment. This is an alloy which can only be strengthened by cold working. Cold worked Alloy 400 Pipe produced under specification ASTM B165, is available in both a seamless or welded construction. Nickel based ASME SB165 UNS N04400 exhibits a lower rate of corrosion in rapidly flowing brackish/saline water or seawater as well as steam at elevated temperatures. In the presence of caustic solutions, the resilience of a Monel 400 Pipe is amazing. Furthermore, the display of excellent corrosion resistance properties makes this alloy grade well suited for applications in several freshwater sources. Hence, Monel 400 Pipe is used in chemical processing and marine environments. The corrosion resistance to acids such as hydrochloric acid or hydrofluoric acid in a deaerated condition, of the Monel 400 Seamless Pipe is what makes them suitable for use in non-oxidizing chloride based solutions. In an annealed condition, the strength of a Monel 400 EFW Pipe is relatively low. This can be remedied by the use of various tempers, which can result in an increase in strength. The Monel 400 Welded Pipe can be used at temperatures as high as about 1000° F down to cryogenic temperatures. Apart from having good resistance to alkalis, the ASTM B165 UNS N04400 demonstrates excellent resistance when exposed to solutions containing neutral and alkaline salts.
The ASTM B165 (identical to ASME SB-165) is the standard specification covering nickel-copper alloy Monel 400 (UNS N04400) in the form of cold-worked seamless pipe and tube. JN Alloy supplies Monel 400 seamless pipes sized from 2″ to 16″ covering nominal wall thicknesses of SCH10, SCH20, SCH40, SCH80, XS and STD. The Alloy 400 Welded Pipe is produced through welding procedures. These welded from either a strip or plate of the same material grade. Seamless pipes are drawn from a single piece of material therefore there is no seam and the absolute roughness is very less. The pipes range from 6.35mm to 254mm in outer diameter and the wall thickness ranges from 0.6mm to 20mm. They can be round pipes or hydraulic Alloy 400 ERW Pipe types. The pipes also come with plain end, beveled end and treaded end types. Please feel free to contact us for more information on the Monel WERKSTOFF NR. 2.4360 EFW Pipes and their prices.

Monel 400 pipe is known for its impressive strength and tensile properties, making it ideal for demanding industrial applications. The alloy has a minimum tensile strength of 550 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 240 MPa. Additionally, Monel 400 maintains its structural integrity over a wide temperature range, from sub-zero temperatures up to 549°C. This versatility allows it to perform well in both cryogenic and high-temperature environments.
With a high nickel (63-70%) and copper (28-34%) content, Monel 400 pipe resists many corrosive substances, such as seawater, hydrofluoric acid, fluorine, sulphuric acid, and alkalis. It is also immune to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, a common issue in many industrial applications. This resistance to a wide range of corrosive agents ensures the longevity and reliability of Monel 400 pipe in challenging conditions.
Monel 400 exhibits excellent ductility and toughness, allowing it to be shaped into various forms without losing its mechanical properties. Monel 400 pipe can be easily drawn, pressed, or bent into various shapes, making it highly versatile for manufacturing. The alloy maintains its toughness over a considerable range of temperatures, including subzero conditions, without undergoing a ductile-to-brittle transition. This characteristic ensures that Monel 400 pipe remains robust and reliable in extreme environments.
In the annealed state, Monel 400 pipe has a hardness of 65 Rockwell B, which signifies its durability and resistance to wear and tear. The alloy’s density is 8.8 grams per cubic centimeter, contributing to its substantial strength and robustness. This combination of hardness and density makes Monel 400 pipe suitable for applications requiring durable and long-lasting materials.
Monel 400 pipe withstands high temperatures, making it perfect for applications requiring heat resistance. The alloy can endure temperatures up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit (538°C) and has a melting range of 1300–1350 °C. This high-temperature performance ensures that Monel 400 pipe retains its mechanical properties and structural integrity in environments where other materials might fail. The alloy’s thermal stability makes it a reliable choice for high-temperature applications, such as heat exchangers and boiler feeders.
