The outstanding corrosion resistance properties of the Incoloy 825 Seamless Pipe are extended to oxidizing acids such as nitric acid as well. Along with nickel, this material is alloyed with multiple elements including copper, molybdenum, titanium, and chromium. The addition of each element bestows a set of specific characteristics on the ASTM B423 Incoloy 825 Welded Pipe. While nickel aids in heat resistance, chromium improves its corrosion resistance. By adding titanium to the alloy of alloy 825 clad pipe, the material becomes stable, especially against the sensitization of grain boundary precipitates, which in turn is caused by intergranular corrosion. Most copper containing alloys including the alloy 825 seamless pipe exhibit some degree of resistance to seawater or brine solutions, making them useful in marine engineering.
The ASME SB 423 UNS N08825 pipes produced are tested for several mechanical properties like tensile and yield strength, elongation along with both non-destructive electric and hydrostatic tests. These hot finished or cold worked ASTM B423 UNS N08825 pipes are well suited for use in applications that demand the need for general corrosion resistance properties. Regular welded pipes are susceptible to intergranular corrosion. However, the Incoloy 825 Welded Pipe resists getting sensitized by grain boundary precipitates and in turn, is resistant to intergranular corrosion. This is an effect of the presence of titanium and the corresponding heat treatment. The outstanding resistance to corrosives in reducing environments has been attributed to the presence of copper in the Alloy 825 Pipe. Whereas the inclusion of nickel not only improves the high temperature properties of the metal but also is the reason why the Incoloy 825 Pipe is sufficiently able to combat chlorine related stress corrosion.

Incoloy 825 pipes is renowned for its exceptional resistance to corrosion, thanks to its carefully balanced chemical composition. The high nickel content (38.0-46.0%) provides excellent protection against stress-corrosion cracking, which is the cracking caused by the combined effects of tensile stress and a corrosive environment, particularly from chloride ions. The chromium (19.5-23.5%) in the alloy enhances its resistance to oxidizing environments by forming a protective oxide layer. Additionally, molybdenum (2.5-3.5%) and copper (1.5-3.0%) contribute to the alloy’s ability to withstand reducing acids like sulfuric and phosphoric acids, as well as localized corrosion such as pitting and crevice corrosion. Titanium (0.6-1.2%) helps prevent intergranular corrosion, which is corrosion that occurs along the grain boundaries of the material after exposure to high temperatures.
Incoloy 825 pipes maintains excellent mechanical properties even at high temperatures, up to around 1000°F (538°C). This includes high tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation, making it suitable for high-stress applications. The tensile strength of Incoloy 825 pipes is approximately 80,000 psi (550 MPa), ensuring robust performance under demanding conditions. This strength means that components made from this alloy can withstand significant mechanical loads without deforming or failing. The yield strength, which is the stress level at which the alloy begins to deform permanently, is around 32,000 psi (220 MPa) when measured at a 0.2% offset. This indicates the stress at which the material starts to change shape permanently, which is critical for applications requiring precise dimensional stability under load.
