Overview of Nickel 200

Nickel 200 is commercially pure wrought nickel grade (>99.0wt percent) and has a number of useful characteristics including good ductility and mechanical properties, permitting fabrications with sound welds to be constructed, particularly in the caustic concentration sector. Alloy 200 is maximum carbon level of 0.15%. This alloy provides highly ductile mechanical properties across a wide temperature range. It provides corrosion resistance in neutral to moderately reducing environments. Nickel 200 is ferromagnetic. It provides high thermal and electrical conductivity in comparison to nickel-base alloys, stainless and low alloy steels. Nickel 200 is not recommended for service above 600 ° F (316 ° C) because long-time exposures in the 800° F to 1200° F range result in precipitation of a carbon containing phase and loss of ductility.

Nickel 200 is a solid solution strengthened, commercially pure wrought materials with excellent mechanical properties and resistance to corrosion. It also has exceptional resistance to caustic alkalis at different concentrations and temperatures. However, the corrosion resistance is better in de-aerated acid. The alloy has low gas content and vapor pressure, and high thermal and electrical conductivities.

Nickel 200 with good mechanical properties over a wide range of temperature and excellent resistance to many corrosives, in particular hydroxides. Good resistance to corrosion in acids and alkalis and is most useful under reducing conditions. Outstanding resistance to caustic alkalis up to and including the molten state. In acid, alkaline and neutral salt solutions Nickel 200 shows good resistance, but in oxidizing salt solutions severe attack will occur. Resistant to all dry gases at room temperature and in dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride may be used in temperatures up to 550C. Resistance to mineral acids varies according to temperature and concentration and whether the solution is aerated or not. Corrosion resistance is better in de-aerated acid.

Nickel 200 is one of the toughest metals in existence. It exhibits excellent mechanical properties and high thermal and electrical conductivity. Additionally, Nickel 200’s beneficial properties and its chemical composition make it easily fabricable and highly resistant to corrosive environments. What are the characteristics of Nickel 200?

Corrosion Resistance

Nickel alloy 200 possess excellent resistance to corrosion by various acids, caustic solutions, and seawater. In marine industries, they are often used to construct sea-going vessels, offshore oil rigs, and drilling platforms. In the chemical industry, they are used to construct reactors, heat exchangers, and other equipment exposed to corrosive chemicals. Their high levels of corrosion resistance improve their longevity and reduce the need for frequent maintenance.

High-Temperature Strength

One of the standout features of nickel alloy 200 is their resistance to high temperatures. These bars can withstand extreme temperatures without changing their mechanical properties or shape. They can operate in high-temperature environments like steam boilers, gas turbines, and furnace parts. Their high-temperature strength ensures maximum safety and performance, making them ideal for critical applications.

Ductility & Toughness

Nickel alloy 200 have excellent ductility and toughness, making them perfect for high-stress applications. These bars can absorb sudden stress without getting damaged or suffering from cracks. Their ductility also makes them easy to form, bend and shape, allowing them to be used in various parts of complex machinery and construct various objects.

Low Electrical Resistivity

Nickel alloy 200 have a low electrical resistivity, making them ideal for electrical circuits. The low electrical resistivity of nickel alloy 200 improves the efficiency of circuits and ensures maximum conductivity. Most importantly, it helps prevent voltage drops and power losses, improving the overall efficiency of electrical systems.

Cost-Effective

Nickel alloy 200 are highly cost-effective compared to other alloys. While they offer superior mechanical and physical properties, their cost is significantly lower than other high-performance alloys. This affordability makes nickel alloy 200 an excellent choice for industries operating on a tight budget.

Applications of Nickel 200

Aerospace Industry

Aerospace companies often use nickel alloys in engine parts because of their high level of heat resistance and ability to hold up in extreme environments. Nickel 200 are frequently used to produce airframes, spacecraft components, and jet engines due to their resistance to heat and corrosion.

Chemical Industry

Chemical processing equipment is often constructed using nickel 200 plates, coils, and sheets for their chemical-resistant properties. Specific applications in this industry include pipes, reactors, and other chemical plant equipment.

Automotive Industry

Nickel 200 are commonly used to produce various vehicle components to enhance their appearance and corrosion resistance. Automotive manufacturers also utilize nickel sheets for electric vehicle battery production due to their high energy density.

Electrical Industry

Nickel alloy 200 are frequently used in battery components and electronic connectors because of their good electrical conductivity. The material’s magnetic properties also make it a suitable option for magnetic storage devices such as hard drives.

Medical Industry

Nickel alloy 200 corrosion-resistant and biocompatible properties make it useful in fabricating surgical implants and equipment. Nickel-titanium alloys are particularly popular in dental wires, stents, and other medical devices.
