HASTELLOY X alloy (UNS N06002) is a nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum alloy that possesses an exceptional combination of oxidation resistance, fabricability and high-temperature strength. It has also been found to be exceptionally resistant to stress-corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications. X alloy exhibits good ductility after prolonged exposure at temperatures of 1200, 1400, 1600°F (650, 760 and 870°C) for 16,000 hours. HASTELLOY X has excellent high temperature strength and oxidation resistance. All of the product forms are excellent in terms of forming and welding. Although HASTELLOY X is primarily noted for heat and oxidation resistance it also has good resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking and has good resistance to carburization, excellent resistance to reducing or carburizing atmospheres. Alloy X is one of the most widely used nickel base superalloys for gas turbine engine components. AMS 5754 has no yield or tensile strength requirements, but it does require a hardness maximum and stress rupture minimums. Strong and Oxidation Resistant to 2200 Deg. F (1200 Deg. C) - HASTELLOY X is a solid solution strengthened grade has good strength and oxidation resistance up to 2200 Deg. F (1200 Deg. C).
Hastelloy X is a high temperature and corrosion resistant nickel-based solid solution strengthened alloy. This alloy has outstanding resistance to oxidation and possesses exceptional strength at elevated temperatures. Molybdenum enables this alloy to be hard, strong, and suitable for welding applications. Alloy X exhibits good formability and machinability. Alloy X is non-magnetic. It has high strength up to 1500ºF (816ºC) and good oxidation resistance up to 2200ºF (1204ºC). This alloy is especially resistant to carburization and nitriding, conditions which cause failure in some high temperature alloys. It is used extensively in high temperature jet engine and chemical processing applications and is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking in petrochemical applications. Industrial furnace applications incorporate Alloy X for its resistance to oxidizing and its ability to maintain good ductility after prolonged exposure to extremely high temperatures.

HASTELLOY X Plate alloy has excellent forming and welding characteristics. It may be forged or otherwise hot-worked, providing it is held at 2150°F (1177°C) for a time sufficient to bring the entire piece to temperature. As a consequence of its good ductility, HASTELLOY X alloy is also readily formed by cold- working. All hot- or cold- worked parts should be annealed and rapidly cooled in order to restore the best balance of properties. The alloy can be welded by a variety of techniques, including gas tungsten arc (GTAW), gas metal arc (GMAW), shielded metal arc (SMAW), and resistance welding.
HASTELLOY X Plate also resists carburization and nitriding, two common conditions which often lead to early failure in high-temperature alloys. After 100 hours in petroleum coke, four other materials were completely penetrated by carburization; whereas, Alloy X Plate specimens showed no carburization at all. Of ten materials evaluated in an atmosphere of hydrogen, nitrogen and ammonia at 1100 Deg. F. and 25,00 psi for 64 days, Alloy X Plate had a nitride case less than one-fourth as thick as the closest competitive material without intergranular attack.
Wrought forms of HASTELLOY X alloy Plate are furnished in the solution heat-treated condition unless otherwise specified. X alloy Plate is typically solution heat-treated at 2150°F (1177°C) and rapid cooled. Bright annealed products are cooled in hydrogen. Annealing at temperatures lower than the solution heat- treating may cause precipitation of secondary phases, which may affect the alloy’s strength and ductility.
