Incoloy seamless pipes are manufactured through one of two primary processes:
· Piercing and Rolling (Mannesmann Process): A heated solid billet is pierced by a piercing mill to create a hollow shell, which is then rolled and sized to final dimensions. This is the most common method for Incoloy pipe.
· Extrusion: A hollow billet is heated and extruded through a die to form the pipe. Used for smaller sizes and specialty alloys.
· Heat Treatment: After forming, pipes are solution annealed (typically at 1700-1800°F / 925-980°C for Incoloy 825) to restore corrosion resistance and achieve uniform mechanical properties.
· Testing and Inspection: Hydrostatic testing at 1.5x design pressure (minimum), ultrasonic or eddy current testing, and dimensional inspection per ASTM requirements.
