In industrial piping systems, connecting pipes of different diameters is a common necessity. While butt-weld reducers are standard for large pipelines, Swage Nipples are the solution for smaller bore sizes and high-pressure applications.

This guide breaks down the types, end connections, and size specifications of Swage Nipples to help you make informed procurement decisions.
Swage nipples, also known as swage reducers or pipe reducers, are forged fittings that connect two pipes of different diameters. It facilitates a reduction in line diameter within a very compact space. They are typically butt-welded or socket-welded into the system, offering a robust, leak-proof connection ideal for high-pressure services in oil & gas, chemical, petrochemical, and power generation industries.
Just like standard reducers, Swage Nipples are categorized based on their shape and alignment.
Concentric Swage Nipple

Shape: Symmetrical, resembling a cone.
Function: Reduces the diameter uniformly. The center of the inlet aligns perfectly with the center of the outlet.
Best Use: Vertical pipelines. This symmetry allows for smooth fluid flow and prevents turbulence.
Eccentric Swage Nipple

Shape: Asymmetrical; one side is flat while the other is tapered.
Function: The center of the smaller end is offset from the larger end.
Best Use: Horizontal pipelines. The flat side is usually installed facing down (bottom-flat) to prevent fluid trapping or facing up (top-flat) to prevent air pockets.
