Type 347 stainless steel is classed as a multi-purpose austenitic stainless steel - the alloy offers excellent heat and corrosion resistance. The material has better mechanical properties than 304, which makes the alloy more suitable for high-temperature service. The alloy also offers good resistance to polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking and is a useful material for use around reactor plants. Type 347 is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and can only be hardened by cold working. The alloy finds use in the oil, gas and chemical sector as well as the nuclear industry.
347 stainless steel can witdh stand to high temperature and this grade has a good corosion resistance in temperatures between 400 to 800 degree. This grade is written as 1.4550 or X6CrNiNb18-10 according to EN norm and it is written as UNS S34700 according to UNS norm. 347 material is a high temperature grade and it is designed for temperatures between 400 to 800 degree. 347 stainless can not be heat threated and it has a similar corrosion resistance to 321 and 304 grade stainless steels. 347 stainless is similar to 321 (1.4541) grade for many applications and this grade can weld easiliy. The most important elements in 1.4550 material are niobium and tantalum, which makes this grade have more stabilized structure.

Stainless steel 347 tubes have excellent high-temperature resistance properties due to the alloy’s addition of columbium and tantalum. These two elements are designed to stabilize the steel’s structure, thus rendering the steel able to withstand extreme temperature changes without deformation, corrosion, or cracking. For this reason, 347 stainless steel tubes have become a popular choice for kitchen appliances, aircraft engines, and petrochemical processing units.
Thanks to the high presence of chromium in its composition, 347 stainless steel tubes are highly corrosion-resistant. This feature makes it a choice for applications involving corrosive chemicals or saltwater exposure. For instance, it’s used in the petroleum, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries, susceptible to corrosive compounds.
The stainless steel 347 tube is strong but also highly formable and weldable. It can be easily formed into various shapes, sizes, and designs and welded without compromising its integrity. This feature means it can be used in various items, including exhaust systems, tanks, piping, etc.
At high temperatures, 347 stainless steel develops a protective oxide layer, which makes it more resistant to oxidation and rust. This is essential in high-temperature environments, such as furnaces, gas turbines, and chemical process plants. The layer provides an extra barrier against harmful corrosion agents such as acids and harsh chemicals.
As a type of stainless steel, the 347 steel tube is relatively cost-effective compared to other metals such as titanium and nickel. Despite being less expensive, it still offers outstanding durability, making it an excellent choice for businesses that value cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.
