Alloy 347H (UNS S34709) stainless steel is the higher carbon (0.04 – 0.10) version of the alloy. It was developed for enhanced creep resistance and for higher strength at temperatures above 1000°F (537°C). In most instances, the carbon content enables dual certification. The metal displays high workability under most common welding techniques. It can be treated with heat, however, it will not respond. Only cold working is sufficient to increase 347H’s toughness and strength.
Stainless Steel 347H possesses many of the same properties and characteristics of stainless steel 347. In addition to its higher carbon content, the alloy is stabilized with an addition of columbium, or sometimes tantalum. Because of its elevated resistance to corrosion, 347H is often applied in high stress, high corrosion environments where exposure tends to be severe. High temperature manufacturing, steam pipes, boiler tubes, chemical processes and steam servicing all benefit from 347H’s resilience. This resilience in turn is due to the potentially elevated levels of chromium in 347H’s composition. The metal can contain anywhere from 4-30%.
The Stainless Steel 347 Pipe is designed with an outstanding chemical composition consisting of chromium and nickel. Columbium and tantalum are embedded in these pipes to help stabilize them in the system. These pipes showcase good resistance against corrosive and oxidative fluids and gases across a wide range of stress-induced environments. The AISI 347H Tubing shows excellent resistance in chloride or sulfuric acid systems. These tubes can be readily welded in place following standard welding procedures.
The ASTM A312 TP347H Seamless Pipe is designed consisting of a higher carbon content. These pipes possess superior strength and are produced without any seams or welds. The extrusion process utilized in manufacturing these pipes gives them enhanced load-bearing capacity across different stress-induced systems. The material used to produce the UNS S34709 Seamless Tube makes them a little expensive. These tubes can only be produced in sizes up to 24 inches. The tubes in this seamless configuration are easy to work with and can be shaped in square, rectangular, round, and a range of shapes. This gives them an edge over pipes produced in the seamless grade.
The UNS S34709 Welded Pipe is manufactured by rolling the metal followed by welding the pipe in place following an array of techniques. The pipes have lower strength and load-bearing capacity than seamless pipes but are cheaper than these pipes. ASTM A213 Tp347 Tubes are a seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy grades that are commonly seen in high-temperature boilers, super heaters, and heat exchanger equipment. These tubes have enhanced resistance to intergranular corrosion and have good tolerance to carbide precipitation in the temperature range between 800 to 1500 degrees F.
