904l Stainless Steel Round Bar is an austenitic grade alloy. If compared to alloy grade 316l, the addition of molybdenum content in the alloy of Stainless Steel 904L Square Bar gives it superior resistance to localized assault such as pitting as well as crevice corrosion. In fact, the Stainless Steel 904L Bar proves to be a rather useful resource in terms of its resistance against chlorides while proving to offer additional resistance to reducing acids.
Similar to many austenitic stainless steel alloys, 904L displays superior corrosion resistance properties. Initially, the use of this alloy was to combat decay that was a result of exposure to sulfuric acid. The main intention of designing grade 904l Stainless Steel Round Bar was to have an alloy that could sustain itself across varying concentrations of sulfuric acid. Unlike grades 304 or even alloy 316, sulfuric acid, which is a highly corrosive solution, has a minimal effect on the DIN 1.4539 Flat Bar between a temperature range of 35℃ to 40℃. Sulfuric acid, an oxidative acid can dissolve metals such as copper. In a concentrated condition, if exposed to water, the hygroscopic nature of this acid causes an exothermic reaction, which in turn is corrosive to many metals. Since the ASTM B649 type 904L Rod is relatively unaffected by this acid, it could be safely used for the transportation as well as the storage in sulfuric acid processing units. In addition to sulfuric acid, the UNS N08904 Hex Bar is not susceptible to decay in either organic or inorganic acids. Yet the same cannot be said for acids that contain halides. Acids that contain halide ions are highly aggressive and can easily corrode SS 904L Square Bar, which is why it is safer to use duplex stainless steel for those particular applications.

The tensile strength of 904L stainless steel round bars is a key indicator of its ability to withstand mechanical stress without breaking. The minimum tensile strength for SS904L is 490 MPa (71 ksi), with some specifications reaching up to 515 MPa. This high tensile strength makes SS904L suitable for applications where the material will be subjected to significant mechanical loads.
For 904L stainless steel round bars, the minimum yield strength is 220 MPa (31 ksi), ensuring the material maintains its shape under load. This property is crucial for ensuring that the material maintains its shape and integrity under stress. The relatively high yield strength of SS904L contributes to its robustness in demanding applications.
One of the standout features of SS 904L round bars is its superior corrosion resistance, particularly against reducing acids such as sulfuric and phosphoric acids. The high chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content contribute to its resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. This makes SS904L ideal for use in highly corrosive environments.
Stainless Steel 904L round bars boasts excellent weldability and formability. It can be welded using conventional techniques without the need for preheating or post-weld heat treatment. This ease of fabrication makes it a preferred choice for complex assemblies and components.
