Inconel 718 Material Properties

Alloy 718 (UNS N07718, W Nr 2.4668) is an austenitic nickel-based superalloy. Alloy 718 exhibits excellent high yield tensile and creep-rupture properties at temperatures up to 1300ºF and oxidation resistance to 1800ºF. The ease in which Alloy 718 can be fabricated offers significant benefits to the customer in terms of economy and performance. The material provides a combination of high tensile, fatigue, rupture and creep strength making it an extremely versatile alloy. Alloy 718 is used in applications ranging from simple fasteners to cryogenic tanks and rocket fuel cylinders. Alloy 718 is used in applications that require high strength such as parts for jet engines and high speed airframe parts such as wheels, buckets, spacers and high temperature bolts and fasteners.

Inconel 718 (AMS 5663) is bar that is already aged (precipitation hardened). As supplied, this material provides higher tensile strength and hardness compared to 718 in the annealed condition. Machining aged 718 is generally more difficult than machining annealed material. The benefit is that once machining is completed the part is complete. Avoiding post machining heat treatment has several benefits since it eliminates the issue of dimensional change during aging. It also provides significant logistical advantages.

Inconel alloy 718 is mostly chosen by design engineers thanks to its high strength in extreme temperature conditions at both ends of the spectrum. It can be used in environments from cryogenic all the way up to 1300°F/704°C. Throughout this entire range it exhibits exceptionally high yield, tensile and creep-rupture properties. It also shows excellent tensile and impact strength.

The alloy 718 is made up of 50-55% nickel+cobalt (with cobalt limited to 1% max) and 17-21% chromium. This combination gives the material its corrosion-resistance properties. This includes good resistance to oxidation, enabling it to withstand corrosive media present in many of its applications. The remainder of the composition includes niobium+tantalum (4.75-5.5%), molybdenum (2.8-3.3%) and titanium (0.65-1.15%), plus other balancing elements. It’s a potent and well-balanced combination of elements, responsible for the superalloy’s desirable technical properties.

Advantages of Inconel 718 Flanges

Inconel 718 flanges is a nickel chromium molybdenum alloy with high strength at elevated temperatures, combined with outstanding corrosion resistance. Inconel 718 Anchor flanges has a corrosion resistance to many environments. In mild environments such as atmosphere, fresh water and sea water, neutral salts and alkaline media there is almost no attack. In more aggressive media nickel and chromium resist oxidising attack, while nickel and molybdenum resist reducing environments. Molybdenum provides exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, and niobium stabilises against sensitisation and intergranular corrosion. There are two speciality in Inconel 718 flanges that immediately stand out are its resistance to oxidation and its scaling at very high temperatures. This makes Inconel 718 inlay flange vastly superior to other alloys, even ones that are made for high temperatures and varying heating and cooling conditions. The high levels of Molybdenum in Inconel 718 Orifice flanges make it resistant to pitting & also allows the alloy to function in extreme conditions. Inconel 718 Long welding neck flanges has a good fatigue strength and stress-corrosion cracking resistance to chloride ions, which is why oxidation and corrosion is so rare. We offer these Inconel Alloy 718 Flanges in custom-made sizes and thicknesses, as per the exact demands of our esteemed clients.contact us.
